The glass on Stavik 498 is 4 mm ceramic, which is the part you look at and the part the heat attacks first.
The door runs on adjustable hinges with a compression latch. A door that no longer pulls up tight is the usual reason an insert starts smoking into the room.
The firebox is steel & cast iron: a steel body heats quickly, the cast iron door and top hold that heat after the fire has burnt down. Nothing in it is glued: the parts that face the fire come out with a screwdriver.

Care
Clean the glass cold with damp ash on newspaper — it is mildly abrasive and free. Have the flue swept once a season.
