Ostrella 527 Tunnel Insert, See-Through

Built for a 1930s house where the chimney was bricked up for forty years, Ostrella 527 is meant to disappear into the wall and leave nothing visible but fire.

Every lining panel and the baffle are stock parts — an insert that is built into a wall has to be serviceable from the front, and this one is.

The firebox is steel & vermiculite: vermiculite keeps the firebox hot enough to burn the smoke, which is where the efficiency comes from. Nothing in it is glued: the parts that face the fire come out with a screwdriver.
