Vulcan 885 Fire Guard, Three-Panel

Nothing on Vulcan 885 is chromed: chrome in front of a fire discolours in one season.

Forged, not cast. A cast poker snaps the first time it is used as a lever, which is what every poker eventually becomes.

The finish is heat-resistant paint, and it will mark where the metal touches embers — that is the coating doing its job rather than failing. Firebricks and baffles are wear parts — they are listed as spares and take ten minutes to change.
