The burner in Solvent 813 closes with a sliding damper, so the fire is put out rather than left to run dry.

Fuel goes into a ceramic wool matrix rather than sitting as a free liquid — spill a knocked burner and you have a wet mat, not a running fire.

Refill only when it is cold. That rule is not a formality: ethanol vapour above a warm burner is the one real hazard of this kind of fire. The door hinge is adjustable, which is what keeps the seal tight in year eight.
