Marnek 253 Portrait Insert, 620 × 900 mm

Marnek 253 needs a flue of 200 mm and about 150 mm of clearance to anything that can burn.

The firebox is cast iron: slow to warm and slow to let go, which is the whole argument for cast iron in a room used all evening.

Every lining panel and the baffle are stock parts — an insert that is built into a wall has to be serviceable from the front, and this one is. Nothing in it is glued: the parts that face the fire come out with a screwdriver.

Care

Clean the glass cold with damp ash on newspaper — it is mildly abrasive and free. Have the flue swept once a season.
